I first became interested in an holistic, unlimited approach to success while still at school. I became disillusioned with the information that was being fed to me and my friends: get good grades, go to a good college or university and get a good job and everything will be fine. There seemed to be so much missing in my education that I regarded as being essential to live a successful life. Your vision will become clear only when you look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakens. -Carl Jung I turned to the practice of martial arts and the study of Asian religion and philosophy to find the answers that I sought. I found these paradigms to be far more balanced and far more effective at producing the kind of results that I wanted. I am not only talking about the obvious, visible areas of success such as financial freedom, but the intangible too. Spiritual well-being is no less vital to enjoy your life than material goods. One principle of Buddhism, taken from the Heart sutra, in particular caught my attention. Emptiness is form; form is emptiness. For years I meditated on the meaning of this and pushed my body in martial arts for a direct experience. When the truth eventually came to me I began using this principle in all areas of my life. By penetrating deeply into a subject or a skill I discovered ever deepening concepts, the ultimate one being the Buddhist notion of emptiness or void, or that which is unlimited. In large part I was inspired to make this investigation by a man named Miyamoto Musashi, the greatest swordsman produced by Japan and author of Go Rin No Sho (A Book of Five Rings). Musahi lived 400 years ago but his work and philosophy lives on in a book that is regarded as a classic. Musashi makes a comparison between the warrior and the carpenter, noting that both must examine deeply their chosen art. He draws further comparisons between the two and concludes that both walk a similar path. Both are able to use their art form to grasp the underlying emptiness and then express that enlightened mind of no-mind in their art. Musashi himself was highly accomplished in a diverse range of skills and is also recognized as being one of the premier Japanese ink painters. In the Void there is good, but no evil. - Miyamoto Musashi The prescribed method then is to use a particular way of life, whether it be an art form, meditation, or something as everyday as your job or raising children, to enlighten your mind to the fundamental concept of the limitless void. Once understood, this state is subsequently applied to all aspects of your life. Success in one venture leads to success in all ventures. Your potential is unlimited. Parting the clouds, seeking the Way. - Funakoshi Gichin At the heart of my teaching of Life Success Unlimited I use the very process of personal development to lead you to personal awareness. Personal development becomes a way of life, a way or a means to experiencing enlightenment in the same way that Japanese Zen arts such as the tea ceremony, calligraphy and the martial arts have achieved this same end for more than four centuries. More specifically I concern myself with these areas: * Unlimited spiritual well-being * Unlimited physical well-being * Unlimited emotional well-being * Unlimited intellecutal well-being * Unlimited financial well-being To achieve unlimited success I use a blend of ancient techniques combined with the modern insights provided by such people as Professor Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi and his psychology of Flow, happiness and achievement, along with the science of neuro-linguistic programming, all of which promote an overall sense of well-being.
