This is another great book from Jan Ruhe, expert network marketer and businesswoman and her daughter, Sarah Janell White. Part-personal development, part-how to build a profitable network, Jan continually stresses throughout the need to improve oneself and reach for higher goals in order to be able to inspire and successfully train associates who will extend your business empire. As with Jan’s other work, Getting to the Top is crammed full of information, stories, anecdotes and quotes and can literally be opened at any page at any time with the expectation that there will be something to learn or consider deeply. Jan and co-author Sarah do an excellent job of introducing a wide variety of subjects that the reader can delve into in more detail as and when he or she chooses. One of the sections that stood out for me is on the importance of not making excuses for yourself. Jan and Sarah discuss this matter in detail and leave you with a lot of practical advice as well as a lot to think about. The primary value though is in the latter chapters where Jan and Sarah, herself a very successful businesswoman, offer guidance on building and running a network marketing business. The advice given is more along the lines of how to interact with your associates rather than technical or legal details, so it will better serve someone who has already established their business rather than someone completely new. That said, the information and experience that is imparted will be of immediate value literally from the second you have established your business and attempt to recruit people and begin building your network. Although I am not involved in network marketing what is written really struck a chord with me based on my previous managerial experiences and various ideas that are presented gave me food for thought. I believe anyone new to the business world, in whatever sector, will be able to learn something of value. This book would be an excellent complement to drier, academic works.
