Awaken the Giant Within

Anthony Robbins

Shamou's Words of Wisdom

– Anthony Robbins, Awaken the Giant Within

“Today, though, I’ve come to believe that all my past failure and frustration were actually laying the foundation for the understandings that have created the new level of living I now enjoy.”

It is said that it takes seventeen positive experiences to erase the memory of a single negative one. I believe that to be true.

That is why we should not drive on the highway of life while looking in the back view mirror. What we see in that mirror is where we’ve been. Not where we’re going.

The more we undertake, the more failures we will have. But these failures are also where we get our experience and where we acquire wisdom and knowledge that will be indispensable to our future success.

Are we to believe that guys like Tony Robbins, Donald Trump, Arnold Schwarzenegger et al had more or less failures than you or I? There is no question about it. They failed more often than we did because they undertook more than we did. But, at the end of the day, who came out with the greatest number of successes?

Failures may not be pleasant but they do serve a purpose so, instead of letting those setbacks throw us off our purpose, let’s accept them, learn from the experience and forge ahead toward our ultimate goal.

My friend Willy (Shakespeare, that is) said in Hamlet, “There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.” So, how about following Tony's example and look at those past failures as laying the foundation for the understandings and references that we need to create the success that we aspire to have.

There is a fundamental axiom that is stressed in Awaken the Giant Within that says, “Life is not biographical. The past does not equate the future.” What is past is past and today is the dawn of a new day. A glorious day that is given us. The day that we will use to build a future that will forever be a statement to who and what we are. A day for self-growth and a day to contribute to the betterment of humanity.
