Two decades ago, I stumbled on Anthony Robbins’ book, Awaken the Giant Within. The message contained in that book is so profound and so meaningful that I decided to study it as if I was preparing to teach it at Harvard University. To that effect, I spent well over four thousand hours in studying it and, now, I would like to share with you some of my observations on that subject. I hope that you enjoy what I have to say.

These are the opening words in Awaken the Giant Within…

"WE ALL HAVE DREAMS… We all want to believe deep down in our souls that we have a special gift, that we can make a difference, that we can touch others in a special way, and that we can make the world a better place. At one time in our lives, we all had a vision for the quality of life that we desire and deserve. Yet, for many of us, those dreams have become so shrouded in the frustration and routines of daily life that we no longer even make an effort to accomplish them. For far too many, the dream has dissipated – and with it, so has the will to shape our destinies. Many have lost that sense of certainty that creates the winner’s edge."

Powerful and very inspiring words… I have read these words hundreds of times, yet they still touch me in a most profound way.

What has happened to those dreams that we had? They are still there, buried under trivial preoccupations and minor problems that obscure our view from the grand scheme of things.

Life is too precious to major on the minors. Life is about growth and making a statement. Life is about self-growth and contribution. Life is about fulfilling our manifested destiny.

Today is the first day of the rest of our life, and, as Tony says, “Life is not biographical… the past does not equate the future.” The quality of the rest of our life resides in our hands, and in our power of decision. We can either take action and live life to the fullest or waste it trying to dodge imaginary bullets. The choice is ours.
